POWER OF TRUST AND EMOTIONS

This type of power is one that can be easily abused, often with the person not realizing that they are doing it. In relationships people increase their chances of becoming victims of this type of power. This quote by Francis Beaumont is a prime example of this situation, "Those have the most power to hurt us that we love". It shows that the people that we love have the greatest power to hurt us. In Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell betrayal of this kind leads to the arrest and torture of Winston and Julia. They befriended an Inner Party member, O'brien, who they believed to be in the Brotherhood, and put their trust in him. In Nineteen Eighty-Four, to trust someone meant a lot more than it means today, if you trust the wrong people, it could be the end of your life. This is similar what happened to Winston and Julia. They put their trust in O'brien, believing he would help them overturn the Party, but he betrayed them and they were both tortured into betraying each other, and also into believing that the Party is right. Red from The Shawshank Redemption
Had personal power in the sense that he was the man
