HOW POWER IS USED IN:
In the Name of the Father

In In the Name of the Father, it is the British government who abuse their political power. They abuse this power by forcing Gerry and his friends and family, through physical and mental abuse, to confess to a crime that they did not commit. Falsifeid testemonies were given and phony evidence was created to convict and sentence the suspects, the Guildford Four all being sentenced to prison, while other members of Gerry's family were given smaller punnishments. The British government also covered up the confession from the real Guildford bomber, keeping the innocent four still locked up in prison. It was only through the uncovering process of Gareth Peirce that the government's abuse of power was revealed. The British abused their rights of power when mentally and physically assaulting the suspects into a false confessions due to the fear that other family members would be killed. Covering up the real confession and creating fake evidence and falsified testimonies to save face was also an abuse of power by the British government.
