HOW POWER IS USED IN:
Othello
In Othello, it is Iago who abuses power. Although there are many characters who have power Iago is the person who uses it to his advantage. Iago uses personal and emotional power in many ways through various techniques. One of his favored techniques is to manipulate the minds of the people around him. Iago achieves this by making suggestive comments and planting seeds of doubt in the minds of his victims. He also uses long pauses in his speech to let the suggestions and remarks sink in. These techniques that Iago uses are made subtly without the victim realizing what is happening. In Othello it is the destructive power used by Iago that wins in the end. Although some might say that Iago loses in the end because he is arrested and is to be tortured, however he achieves what it was that he set out to do which was to get revenge on Othello for promoting Cassio rather than Iago.
